Respite is a way of
"Keeping Families Together".
"Respite Care gives parents peace of mind while enjoying some time away from
the constant responsibility of caring for a disabled loved one.
Respite is a lifesaver."
| Respite Care of Houma provides respite services to families of individuals with developmental disabilities. A developmental disability is a severe, chronic disability which is caused by a mental and/or physical impairment occuring before the age of 22. With a developmental disability, the impairment is likely to continue indefinitely and results in the individuals severe limitations in areas such as self-care, language, learning, mobility, self-direction, indepentdent living, and self-sufficiency. | "Services like these are a real need for families under high levels of stress" |
Respite Care of Houma provides "time off" for families who care for a loved
one with developmental disabilities twenty-four hours a day, seven days a
week.
It can be the support a family needs to keep their child at home, rather than
institutionalizing him/her. RCH provides care so that the family may leave
their loved one with a trained host. This "time off" allows spouses an
opportunity for more time with each other and their children. Respite is seen
as a preventative to child abuse and as a means of keeping families together.
Statistics show that parents of children with handicaps have divorce rates
twice as high as those whose children have no disabilities.
We would love to hear from you
